He Knows Us And Has Mercy

As a father has compassion on his children, so is the Lord merciful towards those who fear Him.  For He knows of what we are made; He remembers we are but dust.  Our days are but grass; we flourish as the flowers of the field; For as as soon as the wind goes over it, it is gone, and its place shall know it no more.  But the merciful goodness of the Lord is from old and endures for ever on those who fear him...” (Psalm 103: 13-18)

“The Lord is merciful towards those who fear Him…He knows what we are made of.”

What comforting words these are. “God knows what we are made of”, and He still chooses to have mercy upon us.  God formed man from the dust of the earth, as we are told in the creation account, but beyond that God knows what you and I are made of in our heart, soul, mind, and strength.  He knows our every thought and desire.  He knows what makes us tick, what makes us sad, and what  makes us angry.

God knows every detail about us, and in His love He chooses to show us mercy.  We can not earn this gift of mercy from a God who is far above our own weakness and imperfection.  Yet, His love is so great that he looks past the frail and immature person we are and He has mercy to forgive our deepest mistakes and faults.  Not only that He helps us to overcome our greatest challenges, because His love will meet our need.

May we take time to dwell on the thought that although the all powerful, all perfect God and creator of all looks at our weak lives and still chooses to love us.  May we be inspired by this kind of love to love one another, as part of God’s good creation.
