Keep in Mind Who God is

“The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets.” (Ps. 50:1 NIV)
The Psalmist Asaph begins Psalm 50 with a discourse of placing God in His proper place. Within these mere six verses he recognizes God’s creativity, majesty, strength, power, and place as ruler and judge of all. They Psalm will give guidance about proper worship and respect, but it begins with recognition of who God is. Similarly, when Jesus gave prayer by the disciples he began by saying, “Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed (holy) be your name” (Mt. 6:9).
We often struggle with giving God His proper place, or in following His directions to our heart and life. This Psalm reminds us to set it right from the start. We must not simply know God is real, but we must recognize that God is creator, sovereign, and above all. When we truly keep in mind who God is it will transform how we live and act in the world. We will use more care with loving others, because we know the one true God and His guidance from His word are true. We will become more thankful, as we realize that although God is far above us He loves us sincerely and cares for us deeply.
Today take time to reflect on the good things that God has done in your own life. You could remind yourself of the wonders of creation. You could think of how specific prayers and concerns of your heart have been answered. Whatever you do remember that God is the ruler of all, and that His love is as strong as his power to make the universe, and that love has been given to each of us. Take time to remember who God is.
   - Keep on the journey,
