Because We Have Known

1 John 2:12-14

I write to you dear children, because your sins are forgiven.

I write to you fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning.

I write to you young ones, because you have overcome the evil one

I write to you dear children, because you have known the Father.

I write to you fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning.

I write to you young ones, because you are strong and the word of God lives in you and you have overcome the evil one.

John writes to encourage all followers of Christ, where ever we are on the journey with Jesus. Some of us may have just started out on the path of following Jesus. Some of us are as The Message says “veterans”, and as such we should be strong to help those following. Some of us are young in faith, but full of spiritual strength.

John is playing off of our natural states as we grow up. When we are children we still stumble and fall, as we learn to walk. Then as young adults we begin to be strong, and often are fast and we feel powerful. They say with age comes wisdom, which is good because the older we get we often can’t physically do what we did at one time. It is often a frustrating time, when we are physically less able to do what we did. It is a sad place our world has come to, when we do not recognize the importance of the wisdom of time.

John encourages us to stand firm and strong, whereever we are in the journey with Jesus. We are all over comers, if we have come to Christ, and begun the eternal journey of a follower of Jesus. Be encouraged to grow in your daily walk, and be encouraged to help others along the path of life.

Keep on the journey with Christ,

D.G.S.
