1 John 2:28 (NIV)
28 And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming.
Continue in Him. This is John’s message of hope to us all. Life can seem hard, and near impossible at times. It may seem in our view that simply giving up instead of enduring through situations would be far easier. Then John says, “Continue in Him.”
We may have to give somethings up in life, so that our focus can be better centered upon the better things. John reminds us in verse 24 & 25 that we must remember the eternal view. We must remember that Jesus Christ, the Son is always in the eternal Father, and so must we be in Him.
Thousands of things will vie for our attention each and everyday: television, radio, sporting events, social media, news, work pressures, and family pressures. It is a plethora of thoughts and beliefs streaming into our eyes, ears, and minds everyday. Some of them truly help to mold us into better people. Many of them simply distract us from doing good and right things, and lull us into a state of listlessness. We stop caring about anything, which means we stop caring about even the important things.
John says to continue in Him, to continue in Christ. Continue is an active word, which means it is action on our part. It may take effort to step away from the mundane and spend time focusing upon Christ and His way of living. It may take risk to step out and share with others in need of love, and to share the good things God is doing in your life. However, if we continue minute by minute, and day by day in Him we will be bringing a piece of His Kingdom into a world that desperately need to know love that takes risk, sacrifice, and responsibility.
May you continue in Him in all that you are and all that you do.
May you keep on your journey with Christ,
