Peace in Life’s Storm

Over the years of my life I have watched many good friends deal with sickness of loved ones, the loss of jobs, families torn apart by the effects of substance abuse, and the seemingly hopelessness of depression.  I have in my own life been effected by many of these same issues.  We all have to deal with life’s circumstances, as some say ‘along with the good, we have to take the bad’ or  ‘we need both the sunshine and the rain’.  However, when wave after wave of these circumstances seem to overwhelm us Paul reminds us :

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:6-7 New Living Translation)

He has not left us, and He does not forsake us.  Many people pray wanting situations removed from us, but God promises His peace through the tough times, through the sadness, and through the pain.  We may not understand while going through situations what God is trying to grow in us, or what good thing He is doing.  However, we are told that God works all thing for His good.  That includes the times of sorrow and pain.

A couple of songs have encouraged me in recent years to stand firm, even when life seems out of control.  We can know that God is going through the pain with us, and He can give us peace.  I pray that you will be encouraged by these songs.  I pray that you will stand strong in the arms of Christ today.

May you be strong on the journey, and know God is with you.  May His peace be your strength.

Keep on your journey with Christ today,
