Humbleness Over Perfection (James 3:2)

Jame 3:2

We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.

James 3:2 NIV https://bible.com/bible/111/jas.3.2.NIV

Christian Perfection is a term used to describe the idea of maturing in our walk or journey of faith. It’s a term that had its time, but i like Christian Discipline or Spiritual Growth or Maturity much better. James, while using the word perfection, states that we all have fault regularly. This means that we may seek to grow toward the perfection, nut know it won’t fully come until we get to heaven.

James acknowledges the truth of of our human weakness. This verse is in the midst of verses about being cautious and responsible in teaching and warnings about how hard it is to tame or control our tongues.

Since we are all fallen and weak we cannot pretend we are perfect or think we are better than others. This should keeps us humble, and if we are judging ourselves in God’s perfect law of love we should encourage others in more humble and respectful ways.

Prayer

God, please help us to be honest with ourselves. Help us to seek to be humble and respectful of our lives before others. Let us not think better of ourselves, but realize we all have room to grow. Help us be as patient and loving with others, as You are with us. Amen.
